Next step Calibration Vehicle and PowerSteer profile.

7. Calibration

To ensure precise navigation with PowerSteer, you must calibrate your vehicle with the PowerSteer profile.

  • Tilt Calibration (required)

    • To ensures the accuracy of the steering system by compensating for any inclination of the controller due to uneven terrain. Without proper calibration, the system may misinterpret the vehicle’s orientation, leading to inaccurate steering adjustments.
  • Angle Calibration (required)

    • To ensures that the steering controller accurately interprets the wheel angle, preventing incorrect steering commands and improving overall navigation precision. Without proper calibration, the system may miscalculate turning angles, leading to steering inaccuracies.
  • Advanced angle Calibration (optional)

    • To achieve a more accurate Turn Angle Ratio for your vehicle, we recommend performing this calibration. It helps with:
      • Reducing long entry times when aligning with the guidance line.
      • Minimizing cross-track errors that cause drifting to one side.
      • Correcting steering column asymmetry for improved accuracy.

This calibration enhances steering precision and overall system performance.

7.1. Tilt Calibration

Tilt calibration ensures accurate steering by compensating for any tilt in the controller. To perform the calibration, you will need approximately two minutes and a flat surface. Follow these steps:

  1. Mark the initial position of the wheels.
  2. Park the tractor on a flat surface and remain stationary for 15 seconds to allow the system to record the tilt data.
  3. Turn the tractor 180 degrees.
  4. Stop on the same flat surface and remain stationary for another 15 seconds to complete the calibration.

This process helps the system correct any tilt-related errors, improving steering accuracy on uneven terrain.

Stop and Mark the Wheel position Remain stationary for 15 seconds
Step 3 Step 4
Tilt Calibration step 3.jpg Tilt Calibration step 4.jpg
Turn Tractor to 180 Dgeree Remain stationary for another 15 seconds after turning Vehicle

7.2. Turn Angle calibration

Turn angle calibration ensures accurate steering response by correctly mapping the full range of wheel movement. The process takes approximately two minutes and requires a flat surface. Follow these steps:

  1. Park the tractor on a flat surface.
  2. Fully turn the steering wheel to the left and tap "OK" to confirm.
  3. Fully turn the steering wheel to the right and tap "OK" to complete the calibration.

This calibration allows the system to precisely detect steering angles, improving navigation accuracy and overall performance.

Turn Full Right Completed Calibration
Turn Angle Step-3.jpg Turn Angle Step-4.jpg

7.3. Advanced Turn Angle calibration

Advanced Turn Angle Calibration is available from firmware version 2.3.6.

For Advanced Turn Angle Calibration, both Tilt Calibration and Turn Angle Calibration must be completed first.

To perform this calibration, you will need 5 to 15 minutes and an open space (the required area is calculated based on the wheelbase). The recommended speed is 3–5 km/h.

During calibration, the system will automatically steer the tractor in a figure-eight pattern.

Advance Calibration Details.jpg

Do not switch to manual control.

Calibration Completion Criteria:

  • 3 successful right turns completed.
  • 3 successful left turns completed.

12. Tuning Paramters

Once the vehicle has undergone calibration, it is expected to function effectively for the majority of standard field operations.

Nevertheless, in specific circumstances, modifications to the steering performance may be necessary, influenced by elements such as field conditions and the type of implement.

Upon initiating navigation with PowerSteer, once the navigation lines are displayed on the map, the Steering button and the Gear button (Steering Adjust Parameters) will become visible.

Autosteering Engage.jpg

12.1. What parametes can be adjusted:

  1. Line Acquisition refers to a parameter for steering adjustment that dictates the speed and smoothness with which the vehicle aligns itself with the guidance line once autosteering is activated.
  2. Tilt Compensation is a parameter for steering adjustment that can be toggled on or off to rectify steering deviations resulting from uneven terrain.
  3. Motor Aggressiveness is a parameter for steering adjustment that regulates the intensity and speed at which the motor rotates the steering wheel.

12.1.1. PowerWheel: Position Mode

From this point, you can configure:

  • Line acquisition.

  • Higher values – The vehicle aligns with the line more assertively, which decreases acquisition time but may lead to overshooting.

  • Lower values – The approach is more gradual and smooth, reducing sudden corrections but extending the time required for alignment.

  • Tilt compensation OFF/ON.

  • ON – The system adjusts for vehicle tilt, enhancing accuracy on slopes and uneven terrain.

  • OFF – No tilt adjustments are made, which could lead to minor deviations, particularly on irregular surfaces.

  • Motor aggressiveness. Adjusted automatically.

12.1.2. PowerWheel: Speed Mode (Outdated)

info-alert.png
Information : Starting from firmware version 2.2.x, we recommend switching the motor to Position Mode. You can do this through the Toolbox app.**

From this point, you can configure:

  • Line acquisition.
  • Tilt compensation
  • Motor aggressiveness.
    • Higher values – The motor responds more aggressively, making faster and sharper steering corrections. Useful for high-speed operations or when quick adjustments are needed.
    • Lower values – The motor turns the wheel more smoothly and gradually, reducing sudden movements. Ideal for slower speeds or delicate steering conditions.

  • Deviation (Red) - an audible alert will sound if there is a significant deviation from the designated line.
  • Accuracy - a voice notification will be provided when there is a change in the accuracy level.
  • Implement lifted - a voice notification will occur when the implement is lifted (the covered area will not be recorded).
  • Autosteer sounds - an audible alert will sound if an autosteer error has occurred.
  • Autosteer voice sounds - a voice notification will inform about the status of the autosteer.

16.2.2. Deviation Type (avalible from v.10.6.6)

  • This parameter specifies the method employed to assess deviation from the designated path:

  • Distance (XTD - Cross Track Distance). (This is the Default option.) It measures the perpendicular distance from the current location to the intended route, indicating how far the system has deviated from the optimal path.

  • Direction (XTE - Cross Track Error) signifies the directional error or lateral displacement from the navigation line, commonly utilized for real-time course adjustments. Choosing the correct type of deviation is crucial for ensuring accurate navigation and optimal path-following efficiency.

16.2.3. Disable Implementation When Outside the Field (Enabled by Default)

This functionality automatically disables the implement and halts the computation of the covered area when the system identifies that it has moved beyond the field limits..

Once the implement returns to the field boundaries, it is automatically reactivated.

  1. GPS (Standard GPS): Fundamental satellite positioning with lower accuracy (approximately 5-10 meters).

  2. DGPS (Differential GPS): Improved accuracy achieved through correction data (around 1 meter).

  3. FRTK (Float RTK): Medium-precision Real-Time Kinematic positioning (approximately 10-30 centimeters).

  4. RTK (Real-Time Kinematic): High-precision positioning (about 1-2 centimeters).

info-alert.png
Note: By default, ALL (GPS, DGPS, FRTK, RTK) signal quality levels are utilized for navigation.

16.3.3. Control of the Working Area (10.9.x).

In the FieldBee application, you possess the ability to determine how your working area is documented. By default, the application computes coverage based on the Field Boundary. Nevertheless, depending on your particular task or equipment configuration, you can modify this functionality in the settings to guarantee the most precise data for your agricultural records.

To adjust how your area is computed, proceed to the system settings:

  • Launch the FieldBee app and select the Menu icon (three horizontal lines) located in the top-left corner.

  • Choose Settings from the available options.

  • Scroll down to the Navigation section.

  • Select Control of the Working Area.

Select the method that aligns with your workflow:

  • By Field Boundary (Default): The area is automatically calculated as soon as the tractor enters the designated field boundary. Recording ceases when you exit the boundary.
  • By Autosteer Engagement: The area is calculated solely when Autosteer is engaged. This option is optimal if you wish to ensure that coverage is recorded only while the system is controlling the tractor's steering.
  • Off: Automatic calculation is disabled. You are required to manually switch the implement on or off to record the area.

Tap Save to implement the changes.
