Manual Freeplay Calibration (Deadband) (from 10.10.1)
Freelpay calibration determines the minimum steering angle at which the front wheels start to move. This value must be measured and then saved in the tractor parameters.
Preparation
Before starting calibration:
-
Warm up the engine and hydraulic system.
The hydraulic steering system must be operating under normal conditions. - Park the tractor on a flat surface.
- Straighten the front wheels.
- Exit the cabin and stand near the front wheels so you can clearly see the moment when they begin to move.
Step 1: Open your equipment
- Go to My Equipment.
- Select the connected PowerSteer device from the list on the left (status shows CONNECTED).
- In the calibration list on the right, find Manual Freeplay Calibration and tap the arrow to open it.
Step 2: Before Start
A Safety instruction for Freeplay Calibration dialog appears, listing the five safety steps above.
- Read each item carefully.
- Once the vehicle and area are ready, tap Proceed to Calibration.
- If you're not ready, tap Cancel and return once conditions are met.
Tap START to begin.
Step 3: Adjust the freeplay angle
The screen switches to the live adjustment view, showing a close-up of the front wheel and steering linkage alongside a reminder to keep a safe distance from the vehicle.
- Use the + and − buttons next to Freeplay angle to change the value in small steps.
- Valid range: 0.5° – 45.0°.
- Stop as soon as the front wheels make a small twitch — not a full turn. This twitch marks the edge of the mechanical freeplay.
- Once you're satisfied with the value, tap FINISH.
💡 Tip: Increase the angle gradually and watch the wheels closely — overshooting past the twitch point means the value is too high and no longer reflects true mechanical freeplay.
Respond to a high freeplay angle warning (if shown)
If the value you set reaches 25° or higher, the app flags it as outside the typical range:
High freeplay angle value The value you've set is 25° or higher — this is outside the typical range and may indicate an older tractor generation or a mechanical issue with the steering system. We recommend contacting service before continuing.
You have two options:
- RECALIBRATE — go back and lower the angle to a value inside the typical range.
- SAVE ANYWAY — accept the high value and continue (only do this if you understand why the value is high, e.g., a known older tractor generation).
Step 4: Calibration completed!
Once calibration is saved, a confirmation screen shows:
- Calibration completed!
- The vehicle name (e.g., vehicle 1)
- The final Freeplay angle value — flagged with a warning icon if it's still outside the typical range
From here you can:
- Tap RECALIBRATE to redo the process and adjust the angle again.
- Tap GO TO MY EQUIPMENT to finish and return to the equipment list.
This value will be saved in the tractor parameters.
